The House
Longshore Cottage is a Grade II listed fisherman’s cottage in the heart of the old town in Cromer. Situated a minute from the sea and pier, it is ideal for coastal walks and any sea activities. Named after the Longshore crab and fishermen of the same name, our cottage has been lovingly restored using local crafts people and products in a traditional, yet comfortable style.
Choice of paint
Fenwick and Tilbrook’s paints were the perfect choice for the cottage. We purposely chose many Norfolk-based companies when it came to sourcing products for the renovation and we were initially inspired by the names of the paints. After trying the plethora of tester pots on the magnolia walls of the cottage we couldn’t believe how much they helped to bring the cottage to life and the intensity and quality of covers was just perfect for the finish that we desired.
The colours
As you enter the house the colour ‘Still Norfolk’ fills the ground floor. The name of this paint suited our feelings and intentions brilliantly after returning to Norfolk after many years and it still being in our hearts. Leading up the stairs and into the hallway is ‘Sheringham Beach’ and this is used in the main bathroom alongside ‘Oceans’ and the doors are in ‘Norfolk Flint’. The main bedroom deserved something a little warmer so we used ‘Smudgewand’ here which has a pink hue reminiscent of many of the Norfolk sunsets we have witnessed over the years.
Upstairs, on the top floor we have used ‘Woodsmoke’ in the front bedroom and the back bedroom has ‘Sheringham Beach’ with ‘Oceans’ as an accent. All of these help with creating a sense of calm in the house, whilst providing a nod to the heritage of the house and the surrounding scenery.
The paint quality is wonderful to work with. We have undertaken much of the renovation ourselves and as amateur decorators we found this a pleasure to work with. We genuinely couldn’t believe what effect the paint had in our house – particularly on the woodwork where there is a lovely sheen on the doors and skirting.

Next phase
We have one more room to decorate next year – a cellar snug. Thankfully we are not ready to decorate this yet as we have yet to clear it out and we haven’t yet agreed on the colour but ‘Magpie’ and ‘Sea Henge’ are circled on the paint chart so watch this space…
